L'oubli, the new album by the Double Quartet
The Pauline Leblond Double Quartet offers a subtle blend of string quartet and jazz quartet, sometimes in contrast, sometimes in fusion. For several years now, the musicians have performed original compositions by Pauline Leblond. Following the refined, creative and sensitive album Suite de Danses (2020), in which the Double Quartet reimagines baroque dances, Pauline was given a Carte Blanche at the Brosella Festival in 2021. She chose to appear with her Double Quartet and to add a brass section featuring Mathieu Najean and Timothé le Maire.
Thus was born the “Pauline Leblond Double Quartet invites Friends,” for which she composed a new repertoire. Hints of New Orleans can be heard—music that Pauline, Mathieu, and Timothé share a love for. The clarinet and bassoon played by Mathieu inspired Pauline to explore new sonic combinations, and their union with the string quartet evokes rich, impressionistic colors.
